Congratulations to Andrew Ysasi, CRM for being chosen for this year's Alan Andolsen Mentor of the Year Award!

Andrew is an avid speaker and contributor of articles and podcasts. He is also the creator of IG Guru that provides resources to professionals in RIM. "Andrew has presented at the Austin ARMA meetings, giving dynamic, riveting presentations.  He has been extremely gracious in volunteering his time to mentor CRA and CRM candidates, and doing in a manner so that one cannot but accept his offer to help guide candidates to success...His mentoring style was encouraging, professional and never intimidating." Congratulations Andrew!

We are pleased to announce that the ICRM Board of Regents has approved a donation to the ARMA International Educational Foundation (AIEF) La ARMA Nostra in the amount of $1,500 in memory of Les Bossert, CRM, Regent, Legislation and Appeals who passed away this past September. The board also approved an annual donation to the AIEF La ARMA Nostra in the amount of up to $1,000  in memory of all ICRM members we have lost.

La ARMA Nostra provides scholarships and reimbursement awards for those who are working towards a certification or have recently completed a certification in the information management field. The organization aims “(1) To advance the profession and professionals by way of shared networking; (2) To contribute/grow the funds of “family” organizations (e.g. AIEF) for the betterment of the professionals and (3) To attract and retain the next generation of RIM/IG professionals and leadership.” This year’s 2020 Awards supported three professionals who have or are working towards obtaining ICRM credentials.

Brian Starck HeadshotThe ICRM is pleased to announce that Brian Starck was appointed to fill the position of Regent, Legislation and Appeals to serve from November 1, 2020 through December 31, 2021.  This is an appointment to complete the remainder of the term of office through 2021 vacated by Les Bossert after his recent passing. 
 
Brian is the Corporate Information Management Supervisor for Newmont, the world’s largest gold mining company, headquartered in Denver, Colorado.  Prior to joining Newmont in November 2019, he worked on records projects at Denver International Airport, Level 3 Communications, Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site, as a consultant with Qwest Communications (now CenturyLink) and Xcel Energy.  He was the Enterprise Records and Information Manager at the Regional Transportation District for 7 years, and an Information Governance Consultant for Integro for 2 years prior to joining Newmont.
 
Brian is a past President of the Mile High Denver Chapter of ARMA International and a past Region Director for the Midwest/Rocky Mountain Region of ARMA, having also served as the Treasurer and as a Region Coordinator.
 
We welcome Brian to the Board of Regents and look forward to working with him over the next year.

The LSU School of Library and Information Science announced today they will be changing their name to the LSU School of Information Studies. The change reflects the school's expansion into additional areas of education, including the Archival Studies and Records & Information Management Graduate Certificates. The school also offers an undergraduate minor in Digital Studies and two general education courses.

Meet our first nominee Kelly O'Brian, CRM from Wylie, Texas. Kelly has mentored several of her employees and Dallas ARMA Chapter Members. "She frequently highlights records principles and best practices during work and shares teachable moments using real time records situations...She is a natural teacher, and an excellent promoter (cheerleader) for the CRM/CRA." Meet our next nominee Deborah Robbins, CRM from Mesa, Arizona. She has mentored over 25 mentees over the last few years. "Deborah Robbins unequivocally has a passion and respect for the Records Management profession, the company executives for which she counsels and her fellow colleagues. She has a breadth of knowledge and willingly offers her guidance, enthusiasm and expertise to all who seek it. She is clear in her commitment to help others succeed; she is a true cheerleader. She has volunteered and created an impressive and comprehensive CRA/CRM study program that guarantees graduates in the Records Management discipline." On October 1, 2020, the Institute for Certified Records Managers announced its newest Post Certification Specialty Designation, the CRM/CIGO (Certified Information Governance Officer).

The new CRM/CIGO certification process includes a training and testing program that is 100% online. The training is a master class in Information Governance (IG), followed by a week of study, and the CIGO certification examination. CRMs may enroll in the program at special rates beginning October 16, 2020 through June 1, 2021; and pay no application fee or CIGO membership fee.

The CRM/CIGO certification application will be on the ICRM.org website starting October 16, 2020. When a CRM applies for the CRM/CIGO, a discount code will be provided.  Then registration for the training and examination will occur on the CIGOA.org website. The discount code for the training and examination will be applied at checkout.

CRM/CIGO certification will follow ICRM rules and procedures. CRM yearly membership fees are not increased due to the CIGO certification, however, an additional 20 CMPs in the IG discipline will be required per five-year cycle and will be prorated on an annual basis.

Les Bossert Headshot

The ICRM Board is deeply saddened to share news of the recent passing of ICRM Board Member Les Bossert, CRM. He will be greatly missed by the ICRM Community. Les served on the ICRM Board as the Regent of Legislation and Appeals since January 2019. In addition, he served as a mentor, proctor, grader, and as chair of the website review committee.

Les was a graduate of UND, College of Business and Public Administration. He held the position of Corporate Records Manager for the MDU Utilities Group, with their headquarters located in Bismarck, ND.  He accumulated over 38 years of energy and utility industry records management experience.

We will be forever grateful for Les’ commitment and service that he provided to the ICRM Community. He touched so many of our lives and contributed so much to our profession. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this time.
