The purpose of the partnership between Long Island University and the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) is to build a bridge between Records and Information Management (RIM) education provided by the LIU Certificate of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Management (CARM) by fast tracking graduates to ICRM certification. The strategic goal of both parties is to enhance the overall RIM profession by supplying educated and credentialed professionals to fill demand for jobs and to advance related careers.

Partnership Pathways

The partnership provides three pathways for graduates toward ICRM certification upon satisfactory completion (3.0 minimum on 4.0 grading scale) of required courses and electives. Graduates must also meet ICRM requirements for one year of professional experience upon application for credit.

Pathway 1: Credit for Parts 2, 3, and 4 of the Exam Plus Certified Records Analyst (CRA) Status

Students must complete two required courses:

  • LIS 714, Archives and Manuscripts
  • LIS 723, Records Management and Information Governance

Students also must complete one elective from the following list:

Students must complete six required courses:

  • LIS 510, Introduction to Information Science and Technology
  • LIS 512, Introduction to Knowledge Organization
  • LIS 513, Management of Libraries and Information Centers
  • LIS 514, Introduction to Research in Library and Information Science

Meeting ICRM Requirements for Professional Experience

Graduates who have either completed LIS 690, LIS 693 or LIS 695 or have otherwise acquired one year of documented work experience outside of the program will have met the qualifications to sit for the ICRM exams or apply for credit for the exams through its academic partnership with LIU.

LIS 690, LIS 693, or LIS 695 must be records management focused. ICRM prefers that the graduate work directly with CRMs or CRAs or that the field supervisor be an active CRM; however, it is not mandatory.

Application Process

Students must submit an application to the Director of the LIU Certificate of Advanced Study. The student must select only one pathway.

The Director of the LIU CARM will provide the graduate with a letter indicating that required courses and experience requirements have been met. This confirms that the applicant is a graduate of the LIU CARM and would like to benefit from this partnership. The graduate should submit this letter with their application to the ICRM.

Graduates are eligible to apply for exam credit upon completion of the relevant ICRM online application and submission of the ICRM application fee.

Graduates will have 180 days from the date of their LIU letter s to apply for the opportunity.

RIM Month Movie Trivial 2023

During April we observe Records and Information Management (RIM) Month. Check out the ICRM on social media every weekday during RIM Month for RIM Movie Trivia. Each day, there will be a trivia question related (sometimes loosely) to information management in movies.  We invite you to answer the questions daily, even if others have already answered.

The prize for the first correct answer across social media each day is simply this: bragging rights!

However, in early May, the hard workers on the ICRM Marketing Committee will put every respondent into a drawing.  One lucky person out of all respondents across all social media outlets will win $100 credit from the ICRM which can be applied to a membership, application fee, or testing fee.

Rules:

  • One response per individual per social media product allowed.  If you have Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts, you can answer the question one time per weekday via all social media accounts.
  • You are not required to be a member of the ICRM to participate.
  • You must provide your answer(s) by midnight EDT on the day the trivia question is posted.
  • The answer to each trivia question will be answered on the weekday following the day the trivia question was posted.
  • A new trivia question will be provided each weekday until the end of April 2023.

There will be one winner of the $100 ICRM credit. There is no cash substitute.  If the winner declines to receive the credit, another name will be drawn.
